A VKC’s URL has the following structure: http://www.uu.nl/vkc/XXX
This is the VKC of group XXX. Each group has its own (self-chosen) abbreviation or name, for example SEH, UPPER, MOBI, BioGeo, Antiquity etc.
If you are in your "own" VKC you will first see the parts which are publicly accessible. To view the rest you need to log on:
- Click on “Sign In” in the top right hand corner of the screen.
- Fill in your own Solis ID (for instance SOLISCOM\piet106, and please notice the required domain name SOLISCOM\ and note the backslash, \ instead of / )
- Your password is the password you use to log on on your workplace and which you use to read your webmail.
- Click on “OK”
If you are having trouble logging in, please try if you can log in using another browser or another computer / operating system.
A safety warning: please do not let Internet Explorer remember your username and password. This may seem like an easy option, but the risk is that when someone else works on your computer, he or she can enter your VKC with your credentials!
Logging on is only useful if you have actually been added to the VKC as a participant (by one of the community members or a moderator). In all other cases, your Solis ID will be "recognised" by the system, but you will nevertheless have the same rights as non-logged on visitors.
Each participant is given a certain role which determines what parts of the VKC will be accessible after logging on. A VKC is principally a workspace and you are jointly responsible for its contents and dynamics. This means that as a scientist you are authorized to participate in nearly everything (taking and giving information). As a viewer you may look around freely, but you cannot add information wherever you want.
